Reflections on John Paul II’s Theology of Art Rev Janusz Ihnatowicz
Rev. Janusz A. Ihnatowicz was born in Poland and ordained for the diocese of Kielce, Poland in 1962. He received his B.A. in Philosophy from the University College, Dublin, an STL from the University of St. Paul, Ottawa, Canada and an STD from the Angelicum, Rome. He joined the Faculty of UST in 1969 where he is presently Professor Emeritus of Theology. Fr. Ihnatowicz has authored over 30 scholarly articles in Polish and English. In addition he has published poetry in Polish and English. His poetry has been recognized for its excellence — Fr Ihnatowicz received prizes for his poetry including the Fondation Koscielski (Geneva, Switzerland) prize in literature (1973), the Union of Polish Writers Abroad, and the Award for Life’s achievement (2011).He has translated into Polish Cardinal Avery Dulles’s autobiography A Testimonial to Grace and Reflections on a Theological Journey. Pope John Paul II bestowed on him the Cross Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice. Drawing upon John Paul II’s Letter to Artists, and other writings on art, Rev Ihnatowicz will explore the theological dimensions of art.
